house extension_w5:

contractor_project 1 design & build

our clients had a large detached family home on a quiet, leafy ealing crescent within a conservation area with a large south facing rear garden | they wanted to extend their existing kitchen area into the garden and had previously obtained planning permission, by others, to extend on the rear and side, albeit with two separate and aesthetically differing extensions | we were commissioned to produce a more coherent and suitable scheme for their needs |

a fresh planning approval was gained which provided them with a modern ‘L’ shaped extension that doubled their previous kitchen & dining space; and a new terraced area which cascades down into the garden |

the extension, a white rendered box, features an open corner to the new terrace with a level threshold and the floor tiles used inside and out to seemingly create a large indoor/outdoor space when the full width sliding doors are completely opened | a 7m long glass roof and a separate roof light allow top light to the rear of the kitchen which is now more than 7m from the new rear elevation |

internally the kitchen is entered through full height double doors onto a timber landing before stepping down into the space | a new side access was also created offering much needed storage and a walk in larder cupboard which is concealed behind the low level kitchen |
